Group Games
Parlez-vious- Francais Pronunciation - Par – lay – voo – Franc-a-la-re-la-ra-la-ray Aka - The Cup game When I was thinking of games to add, this is the first one that came to mind. The youngest that I have seen play is 4 1/2 and he has done great! Careful - This is very addictive! Story – This is an all-time favorite in our family. My older sister learned this song/game many years ago at college. I used this in group therapy to teach honesty (owning up to it when it was their mistake) patience (others may mess you up) and working together (it is very easy to blame others in this game and important to try to help each other). Teachable moments are when we help them remember that we play games to have fun and not just to be the winner. (This can actually be a harder concept for adults.) This is a game of elimination. When someone gets off rhythm or knocks over a cup ( and it cannot be retrieved) then they are eliminated. Some of you pampering parents (and you know who you are) may be tempted to say it was your mistake when you (and they) know good and well it was their mistake. Don’t do it or you miss out on great teaching moments! You will need to watch the video to learn the song. The video just shows the first round where at the end of the song you hold on to the cups during every "La-re-la-ra-la-ray" and then go the opposite direction. Each round will go faster and faster until there are two people left. Of course the last one that does not mess up, is the winner. Warning: this song will likely get stuck in your head…so sorry! |
The Electricity Game
The most fun when played with around eight to ten people on each team. There was not enough of a challenge for this small of a group. It definitely needs at least double this many people. Just wanted a picture. This is a great party game. Note: We had some of our grandchildren together and our youngest granddaughter sat right down with the older children. I was concerned she wouldn’t be able to do it because she is only 2 1/2, but to my amazement, she did great!
Instructions: Make two teams with each team sitting on the floor in a line, back to back with the other team. Each of the team members are holding hands, cross legged (or not, your preference). If that is confusing here is a picture for you.
You will need a small object about the size of a baseball, but something that does not roll (like a ball) and not something like a stuffed animal that both could grab (and fight over it) at the same time.
One person is at the front of the line with a quarter. They drop it on the floor and when the coin lands with the heads up then the first person of each team squeezes the hand of the next person. Each person passes the squeeze and the first one to receive the squeeze at the end of the line grabs the item. The winner then goes to the beginning of their line. The winning team is when the first person in the line gets back to their beginning spot in the line.

The Slap Game (not what you may be thinking)
This is a great group game. It is a fun way to help children who have difficulty focusing. It is fast moving and holds their attention. Like any game, it is a great way to teach good sportsmanship since they cannot all win! A good thing to teach in today’s world.
Instructions: Around ten people make a good size number, too big can get boring. However, a bigger group might want to lay on their stomachs with hands in the middle. The circle needs to be tight enough that you can place your right forearm over the forearm of the person to your right.
To play, the beginning person slaps the floor with their right hand. The next person to the right slap their hand on the floor and it continues going around the circle. I recommend going around the circle once or twice just to practice. Then you change directions by tapping the floor twice. So when the direction changes the left hand is used. Once there have been a few practice rounds, then you play for real. When the game begins, those who slap out of turn are out and the elimination begins. It gets kind of tricky when the last two are facing each other to see who makes the first mistake. Then the winner is declared! Yep folks, there can only be one winner! Isn’t that great???

Human Alphabet Game
There will be one person who is not playing on a team that will have a list of four or five letter nouns. Divide into two teams. If there are eight to ten people on each team then four to five will form the letters with their bodies and the other four or five will guess the word. Of course the people on the teams will rotate so everyone has a chance to guess the word and make the letters. It will be a race to see who can get through the list of words first.
