Tie-dyed? or Marble-ized? Unsure what to call this!
(just about anything that you can dunk in water)
(just about anything that you can dunk in water)
One of my very favorite crafts that kids just love is to marble-ize things. I think I just made up that word. You will understand why I use the word marble-ize.
Buy a cheap large plastic mixing bowl. Fill it at least 2/3 full of water. You might want to use a paint stick to stir the water. While the water is circling around, spray a squirt of spray paint in the water. Quickly dip whatever you want to marble-ize into the water. You can add more than one color. It is beautiful and the kids (and adults) oo and ah over it! One of the prettiest things I have done is some while tapered candles. They are a nice thing to begin with because the wick can be held and used to attach a clothes pin to while it dries. Card stock can actually be used and if if is hung even while drying, it can be folded to make a beautiful card. Clothes pins and lines come in very handy for this project. You will be looking at everything differently now, thinking, hmmmm, that would be neat to marble-ize!
We did this activity at the end of the parenting classes. Each parent chose their own color. I explained how much prettier the item is when the colors are different. It makes it much more interesting, just as the differences that we each have makes our marriages and lives more interesting. This can be used as an activity for a family night lesson or just have a discussion about how a family can have as many different personality traits as colors. Another slant on the idea would be about how oil and water don't mix, just like some of our personalities don't mix! However, because oil and water don't mix, the item you make is even more beautiful. In fact, in this particular activity, it is the only way that it does work! If the paint and water mixed with all of those different colors, it would look really bad...like mud actually!
So the moral to this story is that even with all of our differences, we, as a family, can be even more beautiful because of our differences!
